What is
"Best Books?"
Technically speaking, it is a customer-built, annotated subject index, but that doesn't quite cover it. More to the point, it is a browsable and interactive subject list that seeks to identify the "best books" in any subject. These are the books that have become recognized as authoratative, unique or possessing special value in their field. The Interpretation of Dreams by Sigmund Freud, for example, is considered a classic in the field of psychoanalysis, whereas Vol. 1 of the Foxfire series by Eliot Wiggington is considered indispensable to the history of food preservation. Our philosophy is that the experts are everywhere, and they all have a list of books in their heads--lists that are difficult, if not impossible to find anywhere else. Our goal is to put these lists of books online in a dynamic, ever-expanding subject index that grows more valuable with every list you submit to us. Can you help us? No subject is too esoteric or too mainstream. Nor will any list be excluded simply because there is already a list in a particular category. The more the merrier, that's also our philosophy. Neither is it possible to submit a list that is too long; your list can be as short or as long as you want. Our only criteria is that you annotate (comment upon) each and every book you list. Tell us why the book is a classic in the field. Feel free to go on at length, too, for it is the descriptions and annotations you provide that will ultimately provide the most value to the index. Also, if you're a renaissance kind of man or woman, feel free to submit multiple lists in different categories. When your list is posted, we will include your name and email address at the bottom--unless, of course, you wish to remain anonymous. Send us your lists!
